Hooking up your equipment

Two ways your gear can be cabled, depending on which router you have. One rule above all: any port labeled “POE” carries electricity — never plug a POE port into a device that isn’t built for it.

If you have a standard router (any store-bought router — TP-Link, Netgear, your own)

  1. Plug the PoE injector into the wall outlet.
  2. The injector’s POE port connects to the cable that runs to your dish outside. This cable carries power — that’s normal.
  3. The injector’s LAN port connects to your router’s WAN / Internet port.

If you have a Lavalink airCube (the small black cube we provide — one outlet powers everything)

  1. Plug the PoE injector into the wall outlet — the only outlet you’ll need.
  2. The injector’s POE port connects to the airCube’s POE-in port. This powers the airCube.
  3. The airCube’s WAN / POE-out port connects to the cable running to your dish — it passes both power and data along one cable.
⚡ The one thing to be careful of: ports labeled POE are electrified at low voltage to power the outdoor equipment. Plugging a POE port into a laptop, game console, or non-PoE router can damage that device. When in doubt, call us first — we’d rather answer a question than replace your Xbox.

My internet is down — what do I check first?

1) Check the status page — if it’s us, we’re on it. 2) Unplug the white PoE injector from the wall, count to ten, plug it back in. 3) Give everything two minutes to wake up. Still down? Call us — a real person answers.

Full Wi-Fi bars, but nothing loads?

Wi-Fi bars only measure the link between your phone and your router — the connection to town is a separate leg. The power-cycle steps above usually clear it; the status page tells you if it’s on our end.

Does weather affect my internet?

Rain and wind, practically never — we engineer margin into every link. A heavy, wet snow sticking to the dish can slow things briefly; it usually clears itself, and we’re watching the network the whole time.

Can I use my own router?

Absolutely. The one we lend you is free and capable, but any router works — cable it like the standard-router diagram above, and mind the POE rule.

Where should my router live?

Central and out in the open — a shelf beats a closet, and the middle of the house beats a basement corner. The routers we provide comfortably cover a 1,500–2,000 sq ft home.

How do I set up automatic payments?

Sign in to your account, open Billing, and add a card once — takes about two minutes, and invoices pay themselves after that. Set it and forget it.
